CCA Meeting on Transitional Housing Centre at 377 O'Connor Street

The City of Ottawa’s new transitional housing centre at O’Connor and Gladstone Streets is the focus of a Centretown Community Association meeting to take place at Jack Purcell Community Centre on Monday, May 25 at 7 p.m.

The meeting is open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

City officials, including Kale Brown, Interim Director of Housing and Homelessness Services, will give a presentation and answer questions. Councillor Ariel Troster will join the discussion.

The residence, named 377 O’Connor, will provide transitional housing for families with children — a place to stay until they find permanent housing they can afford. It has 128 units.

The CCA is raising several concerns:

  • Will the City commit to keeping 377 O’Connor transitional housing for families or could it pivot in the future to become social housing or a shelter?

  • Will the City liaise transparently with the community regarding staffing and services at 377 O’Connor?

  • What is the process for dealing with problems raised by residents?

  • What will be the community’s involvement in determining any new use?
